  • Respectfully submitted correction to answer for item #880: This is a (more or less) standard set of borers (hole makers)for making various sized holes in cork (not usually rubber)laboratory stoppers. These are not used for creating small corks. This cork borer set is a companion item with "What is it" item #744 posted 17 Aug 2006, which is a cork borer sharpener, the taper of which allows all diameters of borers to be sharpened by rotating the brass borer against the carbon steel sharpener blade.

  • Just changed my answer for 880, I have a tool book that states that these tools are used for making small corks, but I now agree that they are for making holes in corks or rubber stoppers.
